Cleanheat & cleanburn stoves
Cleanheat or cleanburn stoves (the name depends on the manufacturer) burn incredibly efficiently. This means:
- you get more heat out of your fuel
- you use fewer logs and so save money
- you do your bit for the environment
What’s the advantage of a cleanheat stove?
The main advantage of a cleanheat stove is that it promotes secondary combustion ie the burning of wood gases as well as the wood itself.
When wood burns the gases it gives off usually escape up the chimney. But in a cleanheat stove these are encouraged to burn – giving you more heat from every log!
How a cleanheat stove works
In a Cleanheat stove air is brought into the stove from the bottom. It passes up the back of the stove and is “deposited” onto the fire from an inlet at the top.
This air provides additional oxygen for combustion so the gases heading for the chimney start to burn before they get sucked away. This is the secondary combustion.
The safety benefits of a cleanheat stove
Because a cleanheat stove promotes secondary combustion fewer flammable woodgases are sucked up the chimney. This reduces the risk of chimney fires.
Magical flames
You can sometimes see the gases burning. They look like flames jumping about in mid air!
Increasing your stove’s efficiency even further
As the air that’s “deposited” makes its way up to the top of the stove it’s drawn through channels at the back of the wood burning stove. As the body of the stove heats up this air gets warm too, making the stove even more efficient.
